Nothing is Set in Stone

Nothing is set in stone
But the rock carriers say I have to pick sides
Democrat or Republican
feminist or domestic
slut or prude
But what makes you stronger?
Choosing to believe in something that feels right, oh so right, but carries consequences, ones that burn into your flesh, like the end of a lit cigarette
or is it better to deny what you feel, run away, begin again, leave all trace of your former self to the memories of the leaves and the grass in hopes that one day you will evolve into a stronger, better person
Nothing is set in stone
But the rock carriers force us to choose everyday
And if we don’t
We may become stoned to death, victims of our unchoosing
