The 7 Deadly Sins: Greed

You bow down to them.
The invisible man on the other end of the line that writes your paycheck.
You have no problem licking the taint of his existence so that your car payment will be paid, your mortgage will be met,  your head can hit the pillow at night without a care in the world.
Fuck the woman you left crying in the snow, jobless stranded.
“She must be senseless with her money, must not know what she’s doing, must not matter much.”
Whatever you want to tell yourself to compensate for your miserable actions towards her.
You make her bow to you, loving every second of it.
The subservient pecking order is preserved for another day.
The invisible man is happy.
And the cycle repeats.
Everyday we are limited by a system that doesn’t exist, by numbers that don’t add up, by laws that were set in place to prevent us from thriving, by currency that is covered in filth and can be lit up in flames.
The invisible man fucks us every night, covering our mouths so that we can’t scream while his money hungry whore who relays his messages cleans up the mess he left behind in the wake of his terror.
1 turns into 10, 10 into 100, 100 into 1,000, and so on and so on until we realize we are drowning and can’t swim.
Thousands of bodies in the water desperately trying to save each other while the invisible man sits aboard his yacht, sipping his cocktail, waiting for the agonizing screams to die down.
He sleeps peacefully at night.
Rapists always do.
